Mission of the Role: As the Senior Mechanical Core Engineer at Visteon Corporation, your mission is to spearhead the development of robust and innovative mechanical systems that form the backbone of our automotive products. You will lead the charge in designing and integrating mechanical components with precision, ensuring the reliability, performance, and manufacturability of our solutions. By leveraging your expertise and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you will play a pivotal role in advancing Visteon's mission to deliver cutting-edge automotive technologies that redefine the driving experience. Your mission is to drive excellence in mechanical engineering, uphold the highest standards of quality, and contribute to the success of our projects, ultimately shaping the future of automotive innovation.
Key Objectives of this Role: Mechanical System Design & Development: Lead the design and development of mechanical components, subsystems and systems for automotive applications with the support of CAD software (Eg: CATIA and NX), ensuring alignment with project goals and customer requirements base
Integration and Collaboration: Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software developers, program managers, chief program engineers to seamlessly integrate mechanical components into overall product designs.
Feasibility Analysis: Conduct thorough feasibility studies and risk assessments to evaluate proposed mechanical designs, considering factors such as performance, cost, and manufacturability.
Design Validation: Utilize CAE simulation tools to perform structural and thermal analyses, validating designs and optimizing performance to meet stringent automotive industry standards.
Prototype Development and Testing: Oversee the prototyping and testing of mechanical systems to validate functionality, reliability, and durability under real-world operating conditions.
Leadership and Mentorship: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering their professional growth and development within the organization.
Supplier Collaboration: Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to select materials and components, ensuring adherence to quality standards and cost targets.
Technology Innovation: Stay abreast of advancements in automotive mechanical engineering technologies and methodologies and integrate them into our design processes to drive innovation.
Quality Assurance: Participate in technical design reviews, DFMEA sessions and customer meetings, providing expertise and insights to enhance the overall quality of our products.
Project Management: Effectively manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables to ensure the successful execution of mechanical engineering tasks within assigned projects.
Key Performance Indicators: Project Timelines Adherence: Percentage of projects completed within the specified timelines.
Team Collaboration: Frequency of cross-functional team meetings and level of active participation from team members.
Engineering Efficiency: Ratio of engineering hours spent on design and development tasks versus rework or troubleshooting.
Cost Control: Percentage variance between budgeted and actual costs for mechanical engineering activities.
Design Efficiency: Ratio of engineering costs to revenue generated from products developed.
Product Quality: Number of design-related internal and external customer complaints or issues reported during DV, Launch and post-launch phases.
On-Time Delivery: Percentage of projects delivered to customers on or before the agreed-upon delivery date.
Design Success Rate: Percentage of mechanical designs meeting or exceeding customer expectations upon validation testing.
Visteon design way: Engineering onboarding during the first three months (Company culture and Values, CAD Software Proficiency, Hands on project engagement, collaboration work, feedback sessions, customer interaction)
Training development: Provide continues mentoring and training to Visteon existing current resources to share knowledge and experience after the first three months of onboarding.
Qualification, Experience and Skills: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.10 years of experience in mechanical design and development, preferably in the automotive industry.Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., CATIA, NX) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, Moldflow, Moldex 3D, Altair, Flotherm, others).Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and materials science.Experience with design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles in automotive applications.Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and analytically.Effective communication skills with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.Leadership skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive projects to successful completion.Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality work within project timelines.Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, dynamic work environment and manage multiple priorities effectively.Experience with automotive product development processes and industry standards (e.g., ISO/TS 16949, APQP).Experience in project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, JIRA) and product lifecycle management (PLM) tools.Key Behavioral Competency: Critical thinkingResilienceResult orientationTeam leadershipReporting Structure: Senior Mechanical Engineer will report directly to Visteon Americas Mechanical Manager.
