The Human Resources Section wishes to announce a staffing process for a position of Trade Commissioner (Investment) at the LE-09 level within the Embassy of Canada in Mexico. The results of this competition may also be used to staff similar positions at the same level.
Job Description (summary):
Working in the international business development team of the Embassy of Canada in Mexico, under the general direction of the Senior Trade Commissioner, the incumbent is an investment officer acting as the focal point responsible for liaising with foreign companies based in Mexico to facilitate Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Canada. The incumbent is responsible for the facilitation of large scale Greenfield and expansion investments in Canada.

Level and Salary:Level 9 (Base salary at step 1) = 738,010.00 MXN pesos per year (37.5 hours / week)
Please Note:The eligibility list from this competition may be used for openings at the same level for indeterminate and temporary opportunities within the Canadian Diplomatic Mission in Mexico. When you submit your application, you must specify if you wish to be considered for both types of employment.
Benefit package:
Schedule of 37.5 hours per week
Paid overtime
Fifteen days of vacation leave per year during the first two years and then it increases to twenty days (prorated)

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree (“Título”) from a recognized university in a field related to the position, including but not limited to: commerce, finance, and economic
EXPERIENCE
At least four years of recent* and significant** experience in business development or foreign direct investment attraction
Experience in managing client and stakeholder relationships and in providing client service/support to customers/clients
Experience in providing strategic advice, briefings, and written reports to management and/or clients on international business issues
Recent experience is defined as experience obtained within the last 5 years.
Significant experience is defined as the depth and breadth of experience normally obtained during the course of at least three years of work in a similar role.
Rated Requirements:
Candidates must also meet the Rated Requirements shown below, which will be assessed through any of the following: written test, oral communication, roleplay, interviews and reference checks. All qualifications are non-compensatory.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
Fluency (oral and written business communication) in Spanish and one of Canada’s official languages (English or French) is essential.
KNOWLEDGE
Knowledge of the role of governments in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)
Knowledge of the factors that influence investment, expansion and relocation decisions, and of Canada’s value proposition for investors
Knowledge of trends and recent developments in the Canadian and Mexican economy
Knowledge of Mexico’s economic, industrial and business infrastructure and key players, marketing methods, distribution channels and local business practices

Reliability Status
Work schedule is subject to changes and overtime after hours and on weekends, and travel within Mexico and abroad might be required.
Occasional travel within Mexico and abroad (mostly Canada). Candidate must have a valid passport and have a valid visa to Canada or demonstrate the willingness to get one.
