Setting and ReportingThis position is located in the Safety and Security Service Unit in ECLAC México which is a Sub-regional office of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean. The Security Officer reports to ECLAC SSS México Security Sergeant (G-5) who is the supervisor in charge.

ResponsibilitiesWithin delegated authority and under the supervision of the ECLAC SSS Security Sergeant, the Security Officer will be responsible for the following duties:
•Assist the ECLAC SSS Security Sergeant in all Security and safety matters inside the office
•When required, conduct security and/or operational briefings.
•Examines routine reports prepared by subordinates and certify their accuracy.
•Assists in cases of investigation, recommending action to be taken.
•Makes recommendations to the supervising officer on operational matters.
•Assumes control of specific areas as assigned during periods of heightened security.
•Prepares written reports of all unusual incidents.
•Makes recommendations on basic security operations.
•Performs all other related duties as required.
•When needed, to replace Security Sergeant
Duties may require long periods of standing. The officer is required to obtain and maintain appropriate host country licenses, including, but not limited to vehicle operator licenses. Officers are also required to undergo firearms drills and maintain UN qualification standards.
Work implies frequent interaction with the following: Other UN security personnel and host country Law Enforcement and emergency response officials. UN Personnel, members, members of delegations, accredited personnel and visitors.

EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent. Additional security or military training is required. Additional Security, police or military studies are also required. Relevant University level studies in Political Science, International Relations, Criminology, Legal Studies or related field is an asset due to the responsibilities to be assumed when fulfilling the related functions.
Work ExperienceAt least three years of progressive experience on Safety and Security, Military/Police or other security field’s experience/background are required.
Experience in some of the following areas of the security and safety operation is also required: investigation, physical security, personal protection, strategic and operational planning, fire prevention and suppression, emergency medical and hazardous material response, video imaging badge systems and methods of instruction or related area.
LanguagesEnglish and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, Fluency knowledge of Spanish and knowledge of English both written and oral is also required due to the nature of the work to be done. Knowledge of the second language (English/Spanish) will be tested, unless knowledge of the second language can be supported by a degree or certificate from a recognized institution. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.

Special Notice- This Temporary Job Opening (TJO) is opened to internal and external candidates. The initial duration of the temporary appointment/assignment is until 31/12/2018; the selected candidate is expected to start as soon as possible.
- Appointment for positions in the General Service category is done on a local basis.
