COMPETITION OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
The Human Resources Section of the Canadian Embassy in Mexico wishes to announce an anticipatory staffing process for a Public Affairs and Events Officer at the LE-09 level. This staffing process will serve to build a pool of qualified candidates at the LE-09 level, which could also be used for indeterminate appointments or temporary assignment (acting) at the same level and for similar positions, within the whole Canadian Diplomatic Network in Mexico.
Job Description (summary):

Under the general direction of the Counsellor (Public Affairs) the Public Affairs and Events Officer
Plans and implements Embassy-wide events, including the management of event-specific committees and supervision of supporting staff
Coordinates Embassy-wide advocacy initiatives, including communications plans and products on priority Canadian interests
Manages Academic Affairs initiatives, in coordination with the Education Trade Commissioner Manages LE-06 Public Affairs Assistant
Serves as back-up to the Counsellor (Public Affairs) as required.
General Information:

Open to:Please note that this external process is open to all persons meeting the basic requirements, legally residing in Mexico, and who currently possess the right to work in Mexico on an indeterminate basis.
Closing date:August 23, 2018 at 23:59, Mexico City time
Start date:November 1, 2018.
Level and Salary:Level 9 (Base salary at step 1) = 738,010.00 MXN pesos per year. 37.5 hours / week.
Please Note:The eligibility list from this competition may be used for openings at the same level for indeterminate and temporary opportunities within the Canadian Diplomatic Mission in Mexico. When you submit your application, you must specify if you wish to be considered for both types of employment.
Benefit package:
Schedule of 37.5 hours per week;
Paid overtime;
Fifteen days of vacation leave per year during the first two years and then it increases to twenty days (prorated)
Aguinaldo of one month of base salary (prorated) Prima Vacacional of 50% (prorated) / de 50 % (au prorata);
Saving fund - ceiling 13%
Private life, dental and medical insurance (major and minor expenses)
Pension fund;
IMSS enrollment.

Statement of Essential Qualifications

Candidates are required to clearly demonstrate how they meet the screening requirements (education and experience) in their cover letter and CV.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in a field related to the position (communications, public administration, management, marketing, etc.)
EXPERIENCE

A minimum of three years’ experience (in the past five years) planning and implementing events in a professional, government or business environment.
Experience in developing and implementing fund-raising activities.
Experience in organizing activities with Canadian academic institutions or organizations in various countries outside of Canada.
Experience in designing, coordinating and implementing advocacy campaigns.
Experience in office, administrative and financial management procedures (budget).
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

Fluent spoken and written Spanish and English or French are essential
Rated Requirements

Candidates must also meet the Rated Requirements shown below, which will be assessed through any of the following: written test, oral communication, roleplay, interviews and reference checks. All qualifications are non-compensatory.
KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of standard computer software (Excel, Word, Power Point and Outlook)
Knowledge of Canada’s current education and academic landscape (i.e institutions, programs)

Operational Requirements

Reliability Status;
Work schedule is subject to changes and overtime after hours and on weekends, and travel within Mexico and abroad might be required.
Occasional travel within Mexico and abroad (mostly Canada). Candidate must have a valid passport or demonstrate the willingness to get one.
