Team Profile
The Latin America Upstream Research team is the global leader in oil and gas commercial analysis. With teams covering Latin America from offices in Houston and Rio de Janeiro, proximity to our clients and the industry’s leading players is critical to our success. This is an exciting opportunity to join our expanding Mexico City office, as well as to become the senior content expert for Mexico and to broaden your skillset across the region. You will become an integral part of a growing team at the forefront of Wood Mackenzie’s continued expansion into Latin America.
Role Purpose
Wood Mackenzie seeks an experienced oil and gas professional, based in Mexico City, to take our Mexico and Latin America research content and network to a new level.
You will work with an international research team to provide our clients with in-depth commercial analysis of assets and companies. This includes project management of complex commercial valuation research projects and, potentially, line management of junior analysts. Bringing years of experience in the oil and gas industry in Mexico/Latin America and an extensive network of in-region contacts, spearheading the betterment of our product offerings, and leading interactions with government/industry executives and the press, you will be the face of Wood Mackenzie upstream research in Mexico. You will also have the opportunity to develop a truly pan-Latin America perspective of the upstream space.
Role Responsibilities
Prior relevant work experience: at least 6 years at an oil and gas company, upstream service company, energy finance, or a relevant government agency
Project and/or team management experience
Ability to write and proof documents ‘ready to publish’ in both English and Spanish
Excellent financial valuation and commercial modelling abilities
Creativity in interpreting and analysing data
Strong interest in oil and gas economics and Latin American politics
The ability to work as part of a team and flexibility to adapt to a changing regional landscape
Excellent organization and planning skills and the ability to manage your own workload
Superb problem solving and analytical skills
Very strong attention to detail and accuracy
Punctuality and ability to meet deadlines with limited supervision
Main Responsibilities
Develop new, timely, and improved upstream research content for Mexico and other countries around the region
Lead maintenance and expansion of industry contact network, and present to top level government and industry executives
Develop, write, and edit opinion-shaping special Insight reports relating to Mexico’s, and the Latin America region’s, oil and gas sector
Mentor junior analysts and proof oil and gas commercial valuation models and written Insight reports
Present at industry events, and conduct interviews with print, electronic, and television media
Travel within Mexico, across Latin America, and to Houston to conduct research meetings with industry contacts and to provide support to clients
Remain fully informed on market trends in the region and become the regional go-to expert for your area of focus
Provide expertise and support on consulting assignments
Contribute to the development and sales of upstream products
Knowledge & Experience Required
Qualified candidates will posses a strong knowledge of the Mexican oil and gas sector, gained from experience in industry, plus have experience managing projects and/or small teams. The candidate will also have a personal network of industry, government, service sector, and regulatory experts and executives. Financial analysis skills as well as an ease presenting before high level audiences are required. Degree in relevant discipline required and at least 6 years of relevant work experience. Manager experience preferred but not required. The successful candidate must be fluent in both Spanish and English. Portuguese is a plus. Must be willing to travel (once a month on average).
