Position Summary:
Essential Functions:
Coordination, with Elyria’s Compressors and Air Treatment teams, for the day-to-day tasks of Product Engineering Compressors and Air Treatment teams located in Acuña.
Senior mentorship/guidance for Compressors and Air Treatment Product Engineering teams located in Acuña.
Partner with Elyria's Compressors and Air Treatment Engineering Managers when technical decisions are required.
Goals & objectives definition, review, and approval in conjunction with Elyria's Compressors and Air Treatment Engineering Managers.
Manage Acuña’s Charging annual engineering budget and the estimation, initiation, scheduling, and execution of applicable project and support activities within the group with oversight from Product Engineering Director.
Partner with the Talent Acquisition team to staff any open positions and ensure critical skills sets are being addressed in the recruiting process for Acuña’s Compressors and Air Treatment teams.
Monitor competitive Compressors and Air Treatment technology and support engineering process landscapes to identify industry and technology trends, and develop strategies to introduce new complementary products, technologies, processes (FEA, CFT, etc.) with related probabilities.
Drive consistency of engineering skills, process and tool usage and capabilities throughout Acuña’s Compressors and Air Treatment Product Engineering organization.
Drive continuous improvement in the assigned areas of responsibility, using Six Sigma tools & methodologies.
Responsible for Acuna's Compressors and Air Treatment Product Engineering teams during internal/external audits (e.g. IATF, QFMA, VDA).
Represent Acuña’s Compressors and Air Treatment Product Engineering team on the ELT.
Provide leadership for product safety activities and procedures for Acuña’s Product Engineering team and follow up on action items & improvement activities with the team members, including Controls Product Engineering Manager.
Annual Product Quality Audits coordination in conjunction with Elyria’s Engineering Managers for Compressors and Air Treatment.
Identify and coordinate strategies for Acuña's Compressors and Air Treatment teams improvements/growth (laboratories, documentation, headcount) with oversight from Product Engineering Director.
Coordinate technical resources from Acuña’s Product Engineering Compressors and Air Treatment teams for unexpected customer's critical issues including Operations team support.
Direct participation in CoC's meetings (e.g. engineering weekly meeting, weekly staff meeting).
Work in conjunction with Acuña’s Controls Product Engineering Manager to implement best practices, knowledge transfer, and standardization throughout Acuña’s Product Engineering team.
Yearly merit increase definition for Acuña’s Product Engineering Compressors and Air Treatment teams with oversight from Product Engineering Director.
Required SkillsKnowledge & Skills:
Detailed Knowledge of the tools and skill sets required for the development of our pneumatic and mechatronic valves.
Knowledge of commercial vehicle systems and the interaction of products.
Working knowledge of formal Product Development & Commercialization processes including APQP processes such as PPAP.
Working knowledge and management of creating or revising Product Specifications, DFMEA’s, DV&R’s and engineering drawings.
Strong command of Geometric Dimensioning & TolerancingASMEY14.5M-1994 drawing language.
High degree of technical knowledge relative to engineering & manufacturing technologies, practices and methodologies.
Knowledge of KPS, KE, Six Sigma tools and other quality processes.
Able to handle multiple conflicting priorities and interface with sales, marketing, quality, and manufacturing teams.
Engineering change procedures.
Required ExperienceExperience:
10+ years of experience in various Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing roles in consistently more responsible positions including 3 years of directly managing people.
Above experience in Product application engineering, Quality and Manufacturing engineering preferably in the global and domestic trucking industry.
Demonstrated engineering & manufacturing leadership with cross-functional influence.
Self-starter with a strong sense of urgency, closure, decision-making and driving for success/results.
Ability to work with limited direction and with tasks/strategies having some level of ambiguity.
Ability to assess accuracy and thoroughness of analytical and/or test results associated with product design changes to ensure product releases that result in product quality meeting company goals.
Application/working knowledge of analytical tools such as FEA, CFD, S-N curves, etc. used in day to day engineering problem solving.
Strong organization and delegation skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal. Must be bi-lingual with the ability to speak fluent Spanish and English.
Must be able to think strategically and have strong problem solving capabilities with the ability to deal with conflict.
Proven ability to assess personnel’s potential and performance.
Perseverance for resolving customer, personnel and technical issues.
Demonstrated technical/analytical skills when resolving engineering related issues required to support business needs.
Fast learner.
Demonstrated ability to migrate to and deal effectively with new technologies (i.e. electronics).
Ability to effectively manage in a customer/business-focused, team-based cross-functional matrix organization and to manage time, multiple priorities and projects is essential.
Proficient in Microsoft Office/Project.
Education/Certifications:
B.S. degree in Mechanical/Industrial/Electro-Mechanical Engineering required.
M.S. Engineering Business a plus
Greenbelt or Black belt certification desirable
